As happened this Christmas past with the gifting of two vintage magazines, Photoplay 1927 and Screenplay of June 1930. Which led to a quick scurry to the newstands to pick up ex- amples of the current crop for comparison. What impresses in the early magazines, apart from price and paper, is the quality of the writing and the enthusiasm generated for the medium. Photoplay (purchased at the former Hex Cigar Store here for thirty cents) carries advertisements from the ma- jor- film companies. Thus John (iilbert hailed as the man of the hour in' the big parade of stars from M.G.M. How brief that hour with the Gilbert career to be killed by the talkies.
