The Lethbridge Herald (Newspaper) - January 9, 1974, Lethbridge, Alberta THE LETHBRIDOI HERALD Wednesday. January 9, 1974 Air charter fares to increase PHARMACY A nice place to save money OTTAWA (CP) Air charter fares for flights across the North Atlantic this summer will, climb more sharply than originally plann- ed because of recent fuel price I increases. Rates filed by Air Canada and Wardair, the two largest I Canadian charter carriers, I with the Canadian transport (commission amount to increases of between 10.5 per I cent in the low season to 12.8 1 per cent in the peak summer season. These rates apply to ad- vanced booking charters (ABC) which account for almost the entire North Atlan- tic charter market. Passengers must book 60 days in advance of departure plac- ing a non-refundable deposit of 10 per cent of the seat price. A commission spokesman said today that the rate in- creases, filed more than a month ago, will take effect April 1. He said their rates, under commission rules, will be the floor price for foreign carriers operating here. Seat prices for don return flights last year were in the low winter season, 9188 in the shoulder (spring and fall) seasons and in the peak summer season. The airlines have not filed seat prices this year but mile- age rates per seat are 2.6 cents in the low season, up from 2.3S cents last year; 2.03 (2.65) in the shoulder season; and 3.44 (3.0S) in the peak seasons. This would push seat prices in the peak summer season to about With 15 per cent markups for travel agents the price could surpass The commission spokesman said that the carriers original- ly filed rates last August which were close to 1973 fares. But the carriers sub- mitted new rates when the fuel crisis arose.
