A story in The Herald quoted the police report and some of its findings. Mayor Sykes said in an interview nobody in the police department had the authority to release (lie information in the report which he said was confidential. "When you have a police department which apparently allows the press access to confidential files you make a farce of the whole procedure. Gordon Gilkes, deputy police chief, said he had no knowledge of "how it was released." "To my knowledge, no member o! the press was shown the report." He said the mayor got a copy of the report and another copy is in the police office. Mayor Sykes said the police commission should investigate Ihe leak of the leak investigation. The meeting discussed a consultant's report into efficiency in the city's administration. The 11-page police report savs the detectives interviewed the mayor, the aldermen, the mayor's executive assistant, the five Calgary reporters who obtained the information and others, UK newspaper said. The newspaper says the police report stated: "There was sufficient evidence lo throw suspicion on Iwo or three persons, but nothing conclusive."
