Despite appeals on Nor- dair's behalf by four provin- cial governments and six Northern Ontario members of Parliament, the CTC said in a decision released Friday that Air Canada, which already serves the cities, should go ahead with a proposed new route in April. The Air Canada route, part of a northern-tier transcon- tinential service announced by airline officials at hearings on the Nordair applicatin in September, would include a return Dc-9 jet service starting April 27 from Win- nipeg to Montreal with stops at Thunder Bay, Sudbury and Ottawa. There is no direct route be- tween the cities under ex- isting Air Canada service. Nordair, a regional carrier operating in Ontario and Que- bec, had sought permission to operate one return flight daily in a 113-passenger Boeing 737 jet between Thunder Bay and Montreal with stops at Sud- bury and Ottawa. The application was sup- ported by the Ontario, Mani- toba, Saskatchewan and Alberta governments whose spokesmen argued that the route was not a mainline route as claimed by Air Canada but a regional route to., be served by a regional carrier. Dief's wife in hospital OTTA Olive Die- fenbaker, wife of former prime minister John Diefen- Baker, was admitted to hospital Thursday for "a few days it was dis- closed Friday.
