Ottlce University of 4401 University Drive LETHBRIOGE, Alberta T1K 3M4 DESIGN R03-3 For a couple with a small bank account and a big dream, here's an expansible cottage. With the design illustrated, a young couple can start off with a basic unit, costing approximately ex- clusive of land, and add one addition each summer. The original compact hideaway can become an attractive three-bedroom ranch home with all six ad- ditions, providing a larger liv- ing area, an extra bathroom ensuite, utility room, dining room, additional sleeping ac- commodation and a garage. Additions can be added in almost any order, depending on the needs or preference of the owner. The energetic do- it-yourselfer can save con- siderable money by doing the building himself. The original unit contains a living-sleeping area, kitchen, bathroom and ample storage space, plus a niche for a clothes washer. Eventually, the 480 square foot cottage becomes a full-size home of 200 square feet. Meanwhile, the owner has been moving at a pace he can afford and has saved himself unnecessary financing charges. LETHtfltDOI, Alberta Attention: Don Thurlow Many people, if asked, would probably say that the most famous clock in the world is Big Ben in London. Actually, the largest clock in existence is the Astronomical Clock in Beauvais Cathedral, France, built in the 1800's. It's 40 feet high and 20 feet wide. With apologies to Texans, the largest four-faced clock in the United States is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, atop the Allen Bradley Building. In any event, we've certain- ly come a long way from the sun dial. Today's clocks are not only functional, but come in a wide range of creative, imaginative designs. Prom sleek, modernistic styles to Early American reproductions, the choice and variety a almost limitless. With the innovation of the alarm and the radio, clocks took on added advantages. Now one can awake to a choice of rings, buzzes, clangs, music, news or even the sound of birds chirping! Sleeping Beauty may have been awakened more roman- tically, but then she didn't have to be at work on time or see the children off to school. Of course, even progress has its disadvantages to some people. "I'm so sorry I'm late. I had no idea what time it has become a pretty lame excuse. The Good Book says Noah used pitch, a natural form of asphalt, to deal the seams of the ark before the deluge covered the earth.
