Lethbridge Herald (Newspaper) - January 2, 1971, Lethbridge, Alberta Sex films pay off at this theatre JEROME, Idaho (AP) - This farming community has 4,761 residents, churches- and a single movie theatre that shows nothing but sex films. The owner says it's the only way he's been able to make a profit. DeWayne Poust, a 35-year-old former construction worker who purchased the theatre in December, 1969, says he exhibited general-audience pictures for seven months. "Nobody came," Fouse says. "By July, I was $18,000 In the red." Since he switched to what he terms "triple X-rated" films, Foust says he has netted at least $1,000 profit each month. Some residents recently put petitions in downtown stores urging the closure of the theatre. Nearly 500 signatures have been collected. One of the provisions of the law allows a couple to divorce after a five-year separation. LONDON (AP) - Elvis Presley retained for 1970 his place atop the Artists of the Year listings by the British music magazine Melody Maker. Austrian worker shortage creates modern ''slave trade9 VIENNA (AP) - The shortage of manpower in Austria has led to abuses. A Vienna newspaper speaks of a "modern slave trade." Officials and companies employing foreign workers insist that the numbers of foreign workers allowed in Austria are sufficient to fill the demand. Spokesmen of several companies say they do not require the services of "traders." There can be no doubt, however, that abuses have occurred. Traders, known as "schleppers," supposedly see that foreign laborers have work permits. About 60,000 of the foreign workers are Yugoslavs. Some DIETRICH DENTURE CLINIC ROSS A.
