Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - February 26, 1972, Lethbridge, Alberta February 26, 1972 T Boyle's NEW YORK (AP) Remarks a political candidate gets tired of hearing: ''You have to admit that it isn't exactly easy to make Phineas Techumseh Weother-all a household name to every voter in the country." "There's at least one advantage you have over all the other candidates. After all, you don't have a record of any kind for them to shoot holes through." "If we could count on al! our other contributors like we do your mother, we wouldn't have to worry where our money is to came from. She sent another today." "Here's an idea to help get you better known. Wny don't we guarantee to send a button with your name and picture on it to anyone who mails us a box top? No, not any particular box top. Any box top will do." "Somehow you gotta ante up some money for (lie billboard people. What if they get mad and start painting signs on their billboards saying 'Phineas Weatherall doesn't pay Ms "Another S5 came in from your mother. She says she made it selling homemade cookies door to door." PICK A DISEASE "Things are picking up at your headquarters, Phineas. We had two more phone calls this morning, both of them from total strangers." "One of the things we need most, Phineas, is to find a good dread disease you can announce that you've joined the forefront of the fight against. No candidate ever got anywhere unless the public recognized that he was fighting a dread disease." "That monicker of yours doesn't do you much good either, Phineas. Didn't anyone ever call you something down to earth like Jake or LETHBRIDGE HERALD 31 Column "Your mother sent in t cheque for Uiis time, Phineas. She's selling magazine subscriptions." "Now we need an you're foursquare for. Whoever heard of a successful candidate who wasn't foursquare for Bomet h i n g or "I wouldn't say you're not known, Phineas. But what most people don't know about you is whether you're dead or alive." "Believe It or not, a cheque for just arrived from your mother. Now she's taking in laundry. She says business is great, and that if you lose the election, she'll give you a job as her partner." 58 MALE HELP TEACHERS BUSINESS MAN FOR GENERAL LABOR LETH-brldgi Rendering. The MD bad applied to tha bridge branch of the department of highways for a bridga hut instead a 60-inch culvert was installed at an elevation high enough to prevent freezing in cold weather. However, the water level la so high that westerly winds wash out the road, cutting off trrffic to the south. Further discussion will ba held, a possible solution being the installation of a second culvert at a lower level. This would bring the water level down to a safer elevation.
