Lethbridge Herald (Newspaper) - February 26, 1971, Lethbridge, Alberta MARK 74 YEARS - Mr. and Mrs. John Shevels of Bellevue marked their 74th wedding anniversary at a family supper recently. They are both in good health and both 94 years young. They were morried in Newcastle, England Feb. 8, 1897. Mr. Shevels was born in England April 19, 1877, and migrated to Canada, settling in Bellevue in 1920. He was employed as fireboss for Bellevue West Canadian Collieries Mine until his retirement at 73. Mrs. Shevels, formerly Mary Jane Robinson, was born in England Sept. 23, 1877, and joined her husband in Canada in 1921. The couple has resided here since. They have one grandchild, four great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. - Vern Decoux Photo Young artists perform RAYMOND (HNS) - A Young Artists Festival was presented here recently. These extension programs are for all who wish to keep up to date in shopping and preparing family meals. Bishop is guest COALDALE (HNS) - Bishop O'Bryne of the Calgary diocese will be a guest and will participate in the 9 and 11 a.m. masses Sunday. Feb. 28, in the St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church here. The C a t h o lie Women's League of the church will serve a pot - luck lunch following the conclusion of the 11 o'clock service. From Coaldale Bishop O'Bryne will motor to Vaux-hall where he is to dedicate the new Catholic church. Walkathon set COALHURST (HNS (-There will be a walkathon from Picture Butte to Coalhurst, sponsored by the Hilltoppers club, March 28. Proceeds are going to the building fund which consists of relocating the arena on to permanent property and construction of a recreation hall. Anyone wishing to participate in the walk may contact Mrs. Elsie Lumley after March 1 for entry forms. sang The Song of Ruth. Accompanist was Marsha Gibb. Vocalists were Yvonne Birch, Byron Hill, Patsey Gasler, Helen Anderson, Nancy Roberts, Dana Fromm, Patricia Ocley, LaDawn Perrett, Marilyn Holt and Marilee Heggie. Laura Chipman, Monica Rolf-son and Jane' Bingham performed as a vocal trio. ~ Instrumental performances were given by Martha Keeler, S'ylvia Bingham, Judy Ackroyd, and Alan Dahl. Piano solos were played by Barbara Hardy and Kathy Court. Friday, February 26, 1971 - THE IETHBRIDGE HERALD - 17 Plan programs for recreation on March 3 COALDALE (HNS) - A public meeting and workshop on recreation, sponsored by the Lethbridge County southern regional recreation board, will be held 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, in the John Davidson School in Coaldale. Skate down memory lane PINCHER CREEK (Special) - Down Memory Lane was presented to some 1,400 people recently at the Memorial Community Centre Arena. The show, produced by Mrs. Peggy Bronn and Miss Bonnie Hammond, Jr., club professionals, saw 100 preschool to teen - age members of the Pincher Creek Figure Seating Club perform. Solo numbers were skated by Dorothy Smith, K. C. Petrone, Vicki Dressel, Larry Kempf, Janice Newlove. R a m o n a Shemko, Bonnie Hammond and Mrs. Peggy Bronn. Guest stars performing were Susie Zondo and Frank Nowo-sad of Calgary. Beautiful costumes were made by the mothers. Much enjoyed were the selections rendered by the Pincher Creek Community band under the direction of R. Bergman, conductor.
