The industrial index, consid- ered the main indicator of market trend, rose .68 to 221.09 and golds 5.16 to 555.67. Base metals fell 1.34 to 104.15 and western oils 1.16 to 261.14. Volume by 11 a.m. was 1.27 million shares, down from 1.38 million at the same time Fri- day. Advances outnumbered de- clines 179 to 142 with 166 issues unchanged. Merchandising, construc- tion and material, real estate and oil refining sectors of the market were higher while pipeline, chemical, communication and food processing issues were lower.
