Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - February 23, 1974, Lethbridge, Alberta 6 THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD Saturday, February 23, 1974 May top million mark Color TV sales increase expected TV highlights TORONTO (CP) Spokes- men for the Canadian elec- tronics industry say they expect to sell more than one million color television sets this year. Although it would be the first time for the industry to hit such a volume, the forecast is only marginally higher than the estimated sold last year. Philips Electronics Industries Ltd., Toronto, reported a 45-percent increase in color sales in 1973, its first full year of production. "In 1974, we hope for another 40-per-cent an official said. Roy Phillips, a vice- president of RCA Ltd., Montreal, said that company had a sales increase of 15 per cent in its color lines last year. He predicted a further Sonny and Cher marital split TV stars9 future unknown NEW YORK (AP) The question of whether the top- rated Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour on CBS will survive the marital split of its two stars this week is intriguing. Sonny Bono, 37, said through a spokesman he's seeking a legal separation from Cher, 27, the singing partner he married in October, 1964. He cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for his action. CBS-TV's programming chief, Fred Silverman, said the couple only has one more show to tape for the current season but he said he didn't know yet if it'll be back next fall. "Things are he under-stated when asked what effect the Sonny and Cher separation will have on the future of their show. He was asked if it'll be off CBS' fall schedule should they get .a divorce. "I don't he replied, "We're having meetings to discuss the situation and I'd rather not give you an answer right off the top of my head. increase of between seven and eight per cent this year. In the last half of 1973, the company increased its prices by about five per cent as a result of higher costs for cartons, glass, copper, transportation and components. Management at Motorola Canada Ltd.; Toronto, antici- pates a 1974 sales increase of between 10 and 15 per cent to follow an increase of more than 20 per cent in 1973. However, officials added that "the industry is reaching 50- per-cent saturation and we' have reached a time for a settling in the market." Canadian Admiral Corp., Toronto, had a sales increase of about 10 per cent last year and president Edwin Whittaker said the company is budgeting for a further increase of between six and seven per cent this year. The company maintained its prices during 1973, but expects increases of between three and five per cent shortly. SATURDAY SPORT: NHL Hockey, 6 p.m., Ch. 7.
