Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - February 22, 1974, Lethbridge, Alberta Friday, February 22, 1974 THE LETHBRIDQE HERALD 21 Hog board lashed Power plant big venture RED DEER (CP) A delegate to the Alberta Hog Producers Marketing Board said Wednesday the board is not working in the best interest of provincial hog producers. Jim Christie of Trochu, said prices for hogs in the province are much lower than in Ontario and part of the reason was that Alberta buyers are not competing with each other. The selling system employed by the Alberta Hog Producers Marketing Board gives bidders a one-buyer situation. Phil Mueller of Red Deer said low prices are forcing many producers to quit and this "will mean less pork in the future, at higher prices to the consumer." EDMONTON (CP) A planning report has proposed that a coal-fired power plant, estimated to cost million, be built 40 miles southeast of Edmonton. The electric utilities planning council report suggests the plant be a joint project of utility companies especially Calgary Power, a" privately-owned firm, and Edmonton Power, a city- owned operation. Cooling water for the plant could be provided by a pipeline from the North Saskatchewan river to the area. The pipeline could also raise the water levels in the Cooking Lake Moraine area. Power from the plant will be needed by 1980 and 6Vz years are needed to design and construct the facility, the council said CAREER OPPORTUNITIES MOBILE HOME MANUFACTURER requires Supervisory Personnel Rapidly expanding manufacturer in Mobile Home Industry requires supervisory personnel with ex- perience in the Industry.
