The film unit was expanded under the Drilish post office with Grierson documentaries at- taining a world reputation. He inspired the development of the Empire film library at the Im- perial Institute, now known as t h c Commonwealth Institute and founded the film centre to advise all British government departments on productions of specialist films. Grierson caught the attention of the Canadian government in the years before the Second World War, when he became adviser to the Imperial Rela- tions Trust, established lo strengthen Commonwealth ties.
