NAME ADDRESS Phone No. Mail To BOX 1090 LETHBRIDGE LOS ANGELES (AP) Ac- tress Connie Stevens has of- fered to buy an American Broadcasting Corp. Movie of the Week, The Sex Symbol, following the network's decision not to air it as scheduled March 5. CONNIE STEVENS An ABC spokesman said Monday that the movie, depicting an actress who is driven to drugs and drink, is being withdrawn because it needs more work. Other reports, however, in- dicated that ABC's decision may have been influenced by political overtones raised by scenes in the film recounting a romance between the actress and a U.S. senator. Interviewed by phone, Miss Stevens, currently appearing in Lake Tahoe, Nev., said she has heard the film will not be shown for at least a year. "If it's a year, I'd like to buy it she said. Asked whether the scenes involving a U.S. senator were a factor in the decision to withdraw the film, an ABC spokesman said: "I don't know. All I know is that we want to do additional work on the film. We intend to schedule it in the future." TV highlights THURSDAY MOVIE DRAMA: "It's Good to Be 6 p.m., Ch. 7. TORONTO (CP) Two Toronto refining firms served the CBC with a writ of summons Saturday claiming damages for libel resulting from a radio broadcast of a documentary on lead pollution. The writ of summons by Canada Metal Co. Ltd. and Toronto Refiners and Smelters Ltd., also names The Globe and Mail; its president and publisher, James L. Cooper; and Blaik Kirby and Graham Fraser, reporters for the newspaper. Named with the corporation are CBC producer Mark Starowicz and "tory editor Max Allen. A temporary injunction prohibiting the CBC from SATURDAY CHIPS SPECIAL per Order ONLY. broadcasting portions of the radio program was dissolved last week by Mr. Justice Richard Holland of the Ontario Supreme Court. Mr. Justice John Wilson had granted the injunction less than an hour before the taped CBC program titled Dying of Lead was broadcast in Ontario and Quebec on the program As It Happens. In their statement of writ, the firms cited 15 separate, "innuendoes and meanings" contained in the program. The writ adds: "The plaintiffs have suffered and will in the future suffer incalculable and irreparable harm to their business. "They have lost customers, reputation and have been subjected to humiliation, contempt and rejection by the community and have been put to abnoimal expenses." In a related action, the two companies again asked for an injunction, until the libel case is heard, restraining not only the CBC, The Globe and Mail and their employees, but "any other person with knowledge of such an order" from publishing "anything complained of in the statement of claim" and also from publishing particulars of injunction documents.
