Phone 327-8548 TORONTO such as Winnipeg Blue Bomb- ers, took all they could get, while others, such as Montreal Alouettes, found slim pickings at the Canadian Football League's draft of college players Wednesday. The Bombers picked first and didn't stop until they had chosen 10 players in the eight- round draft while Montreal drafted only two players. General manager Bob Geary of the Als said he came with a list of 30 players he was interested in and by the time he had picked two, all the others were gone. "That's why I passed up on the said Geary. "This wasn't a good year in terms of numbers of prospects. This happens in every sport. It goes in cycles. "Being the Grey Cup cham- pions and already deep in Canadian talent, I just didn't feel any of the others available to us could have possibly cracked our lineup." Winnipeg, as expected, made offensive tackle Steve Scully from Kitchener, Ont., via the University of Syracuse the first pick in the draft which saw a total of 66 players named by the nine CFL clubs. The Bombers, with two other first-round choices through earlier deals, also took defensive back Don Bowman from University of Western Ontario and kicker Bernard Ruoff, also from Syracuse. Later Wednesday, there was a report from Syracuse that Ruoff, also a Kitchener native, had signed a contract with New England Patriots of the National Football League. Al Charuk, a wide receiver, defensive back and kicker who" was named the outstanding. Canadian college player last year when he played with Acadia University, was the se- cond pick, by Toronto Argonauts. "I've viewed him on film, I've talked to the boy and I lik- ed what I said Argo coach Russ Jackson. ''We got the guy we really wanted." Third pick was quarterback Gerald Kunyk from Univer- sity of Alberta, 'picked by Hamilton Tiger-Gats. The Bombers then chose Bowman and Hamilton used another first-round pick to take runn- ing back Sean Sullivan of Simon Fraser University. Then the Ticats, with .yet a third first-round choice ob- tained from Saskatchewan Roughriders, took offensive tackle Krys Kasprzyk from Wooster, Ohio. Ottawa Rough Riders fol- lowed by taking Marvin Alle- mang, a tight end-linebacker from Acadia. We've got the cars, the exclusive AMC Buyer Protection Plan, and we have the AMG Cash Rebate Plan.
