Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - February 17, 1971, Lethbridge, Alberta 17, I THE inHIMDCE 27 Train troops for new invasion PARIS (AP) Americans, Frenchmen and West Germans are training men in Portuguese Guinea for a new invasion of Guinea, President Sekou Toure said in an interview published here. "I have teamed that whites from West Germany, France and the United States are tram- ing men in he said. Toure made no further men- tion of Americans, but he ap- parently was claiming the in- volvement of U.S. mercenary instructors. "Federal Germany furnished 500 mercenaries. Portugal is not furnishing white men but it is permitting the use of Guinea- Bissau territory and the recruit- ing of nationals of this country for this aggression." Toure told an Egyptian writing for the magazine Jeune Afrique.. Toure also said Portugal was providing aircraft and about 15 naval vessels to the alleged raiding party. Guinea was attacked last Nov- ember and Toure claimed the invasion was mounted by Portu gal. Japan joins space club UNCHINOURA (Reuter) Japan's first full-fledged space satellite orbited the earth Tues- day, ending a long embarrass- ing series of failures for local scientists. The 138.8 pound satellite began sending back radio sig- nals to this southern Japanese space centre almost two hours after a flawless launch atop a four stage solid fuel rocket. Japan joined the elite space club a year ago with the orbit- ing of the nose cone from a four-stage rocket, but radio sig- nals from the primitive satel- lite ceased after 15 hours. The launchmg was designed to test rocket and satellite sys- tems before the orbitting of the first scientific payload later this year. The current satellite is de- signed only to send back sig- nals until its batteries die in one week. Detained by Mexican police are Canadian Susan Pelletier; James Edwards of Springfield, Ohio- Jerry Ashworth, also of Ohio, and Jose Soto Luna, a Mexican. No charges have been filed against the four. The district attorney's office said that when Miss Pelletier attempted to cash the counter- feit money, two unidenffiired treasury agents asked to see them and informed police they were fake. Police said Miss Pelletier told them she received the bills from Edwards and Ashworth who ar rived here five days ago. Police investigation is reported to have turned up of the fake bill and printing ink. Police did no disclose whether plates wer found.
