The decision was announced recently by Education Minister Lome. McGuigan after a com- plaint was lodged by the New Brunswick Association for the Advancement of Colored Peo- ple on behalf of a Saint John student. Penny Brown, a tirade 12 student, said the book cast colored people in a poor light. Mr. McGuigan said the book would be deleted from English courses next term and the as- sociation's objection would be passed on to the department's curriculum committee "in the hope for greater sensitivity to the opinions and attitudes of minority groups." he was kidnapped Oct. 5 at his Montreal home but now he suf- fers from astigmatism which causes imperfect focussing and blurring. In an interview with tlie news- paper, Mr. Cross' married daughter Susan says the dam- age may have been caused by a "nun-like bonnet" which -Mr. Cross was forced to wear during Ills captivity so he would not be able to see his captors. The bonnet restricted vision to j a small area directly in front of him and was only removed each morning to allow Mr. Cross to j shave and wash while the kid- j nappers put on masks. I Mr. Cross was released Dec. 3 j and seven persons were given] free passage to Cuba after po- lice had surrounded the north- end house where the diplomat was held.
