Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - February 14, 1975, Lethbridge, Alberta Competition tough at big Toronto indoor event CTV will telecast the Toronto Star Maple Leaf Indoor Games on Wide World of Sports Saturday and again Feb. 22. This competition is con- sidered one of the best in- door meets in the world, having earned such an out- standing reputation that many athletes call and ask to be invited. To date, 14 countries are represented in this year's games: Canada, United States, England, New Zealand, Australia, Wales, Poland, Eire, Sweden, Ghana, Jamaica, Nigeria, Bahamas and Mexico. Poland's Elizabeth Katolik, European indoor 800 meter champion, will challenge Canada's Abby Hoffman over 880 yards. Abby won the Canadian in- door championship in March, covering 800 meters in and then added the Canadian out- door laurels to her growing list of titles with a over 800 meters in August. Sub four minute miler, John Harnett of Eire will move up to the three mile event in an attempt to become the first runner to win both the mile and the distance race at the Games. Canada's Grant McLaren will provide formidable opposi- tion after placing, third for three years at the Games. Fergie Olver, CFTO-TV, Toronto hosts. Abby Hoffman and Dr. Geoff Gowan provide the color commentary. Johnny Esaw, CTV's vice presi- dent of sports, is executive producer. APPOINTED DIRECTOR Aldo Ceccato, 40, ap- pointed music director of the Detroit Symphony in May, has been named director of the Hamburg Philharmonic.
