The industrial index, considered a major indicator of market trend, was up 2.52 to 227.14, gold 1.66 to 217.76, base metals 1.55 to 100.90 and western oils 2.64 to 287.69. Volume by 11 a.m. was 1,314,-000 shares compared with 732,-000 shares traded by the same time Monday. Bank, beverage, steel and industrial mining stocks were among sectors of the markets showing pains while construction and material and utility stocks were the only sectors showing declines. Advances outnumbered declines 203 to 87 while 189 issues remained unchanged. Falconbridge Nickel rose 2 to $69, Chrysler Corp. 1% to $40, Elecfcrohome VA to $19, No-randa Mines lVa to $48y4 and Macmillan Bloedel 1 to $30. General Distributors fell IVi to $81%, Leigh Instruments, % to $10 and Abitdto. Paper % to $11. Rio Algom advanced V/b ot $2iy8, Gibraltar % to $ll7/s and Preston Mines Vi to $10y2. On the Canadian Stock Exchange, New Insco Mines gained seven cents to $1.40 on 78,700 stares. MONTREAL (CP) - All sectors gained in moderate trading on the Montreal stock market today. Combined volume on the Montreal and Canadian stock exchanges at 11 a.m. was 558,000 shares, compared with 408,100 at the same time Monday. Industrials gained 3.31 to 252.44, banks 2.S8 to 277.57, the composite 2.79 to 237.71, papers 1.41 to 116.74 and utilities .91 to $54 whie Andres Wines 162.77. On the Montreal Stock Exchange, Falconbridge Nickel gained 2Vi to $68%, National Trust 2% to $683/4, National NEW YORK (AP) - The stock market raced upward today on news of United States dollar devaluation, then pulled back as profit takers moved in. The noon Dow Jones average of 30 industrial stocks was ahead 7.90 to 999.47, after having been up more than 21 points in the first 30 minutes of trading. Advances outpaced declines by 1,070 to 316 on the New York Stock Exchange.
