Lethbridge I Southern Albertans have a unique opportunity to participate in supporting and promoting interest in the Winter Games. The Winter Games Socie- ty is sponsoring a lottery to raise funds to financially. assist the cost of running the Games. The 1975 Canada Winter Games is different in several ways from the previous Games held in Saskatoon and New West- minster. The 1975 Games are be- ing held on a regional concept, rather than a par- ticular host city. The pop- ulation is about one third less in this region than in the previous host cities. It'was decided that a lottery would not only help in defraying costs of the Games but also promote participation by groups and individuals not otherwise actively taking part in organizing and running the event. Service organizations, clubs and any other groups are encouraged to sell tickets to raise funds for both their own organization as well as the Winter Games Society. The groups will be offered a generous sales commission, enabling them to raise funds for their own purposes. To assist these organizations sell tickets, an extensive advertising campaign is being con- ducted. There will be radio and television an- nouncements, newspaper ads and press conferences. It is expected that all of the financial institutions in Alberta will be actively lending their support to the success of the Winter Games by offering to sell tickets. The vast network of banks, trust companies and treasury branches will be a tremendous assist in the marketing of tickets. The type and style of the ticket is similar to the Olympic Canada Lottery Ticket. There will be the usual Early Bird Draws to encourage sellers to turn the ticket sales proceeds in promptly. Tickets cost and a large number of prizes are offered to the winning ticket holders. Prizes totalling are being offered. The single largest prize is There are 10 Hawaiian Trips worth 80 cash prizes of 4 cars valued at each; and one cash prize of Ticket sales will run un- til the final draw to be made March 17, 1975. The lottery committee is under the chairmanship of John Gogo. Other members are Larry Higa, Doug Ross, Ron Chapman and Bruce MacKenzie. This is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity for the residents of Southern Alberta to actively par- ticipate in the Winter Games. It will be 48 years before Alberta again becomes eligible to host the Winter Games. If your group or organization wants to sup- port the Winter Games, contact the Canada Winter Games Office or phone 329- 0575 for more particulars.
