Combined volume on the Montreal and Canadian stock exchanges at 11 a.m. was 349,900 shares, compared with 488,100 at the same time Wednesday. Industrials dropped 1.12 to 248.66, 233.87, banks the composite .97 to utilities .ilti to 159.88 and 12 to 271.04 while papers gained .18 to U'3.14. On the Montreal Stock E x-change, Credit Foncier dropped 3',s to $101, Great Lakes Paper lis to $19"'i and Gulf Oil Canada I to $37 while Simpsons-Sears gained li to $50. Market decli in active TORONTO (CP) - Prices on the Toronto stock market were moderately lower in active mid-morning trading today. The industrial index, considered a major indicator of market trends, was down .57 to 2&U3. base metals .16 to 99.02 and western oils 1.32 to 282.15. Volume by 11 a.m. was 901,-000 shares compared with 787,-000 traded by the same time Wednesday. Oil refining, steel, pipeline and trust and loan stocks were among sectors of the market recording losses while communication, food processing, construction and material and paper and forest issues were higher. Declines outnumbered advances 137 to 101 while 199 issues were unchanged. Dome Pete fell �/4 to $44Vi, Peoples Department Stores % to $20%. Great Lakes Power Vz to $24, Petrofina Yz to $311/2 and Moore M to $50%. Bad Boy rose Vi to $18%, Canadian Tire A Vi to $62 Vi, Southam Press Vi to $30Vi. The noon Dow Jones average of 30 industrials was unchanged at 968.32. It was off more than nine points in early trading. Declining issues on the New York Stock Exchange outnumbered gaining issues 855 to 360. Rapeseed prices were nine cents below previous close levels to unchanged, flax was as much as 10 cents lower, oats and barley declined three to six cents and rye was off about 6% cents. Volume of trade Wednesday was 1,442,000 bushels of flax, 3.-854,000 of rapeseed and 1,358,000 of rye. Calgary livestock CALGARY (CP) - Receipts to 11 a.m. today from the Calgary public stockyards show sales of about 1,000 head, mostly steers and heifers. Trade was active. Slaughter steers sold steady with sales to 40.50. Heifers were $1.50 higher. Cows met a good demand at prices 50 cents higher with sales to 28.80. A few bulls sold steady. Steers Al and 2 39.75 to 40.40, A3 39 to 39.75. Heifers Al and 2 36.50 to 37.80, A3 ' 35.50 to 36.50. Cows Dl and 2 27 to 28.50. D3 25.50 to 26.75, D4 22 to 25.50. Good bulls 30 to 33. Replacement cattle were mostly fleshy steers weighing more than 1,000 pounds. These met a good export demand at steady prices. Replacement heifers were scarce and sold steady.
