MAGRATH (HNS) - Creative Crafts, a Junior Achievement Company here, has won a national competition with its mantle-piece owl project. The 20-m e m b e r company also won runner-up position in a competition involving provinces and northwestern U.S. states. Creative Crafts is directed by.president Myra Seward, 18, and vice-presidents Darci and Debra Fletcher, Louise Bullock, John Stanek and David Murray. Teachers Mrs. Ruby Fletcher and Dave Lowry oversee the project at the Magrath High School. Bart Wobben, Bellevue, 564-4947. RDEK plans newsletter NATAL (HNS) - A newsletter, Regionally Speaking, will be published on a bi-monthly basis by the Regional District of East Kootenay. Its purpose is to "maintain the level of communication between the regional board and other elected officials and ac- tive citizen groups." It will be mailed to every householder. Comments arising from the newsletter can be delivered to the directors and to secretary-treasurer Frank Bertoia at the RDEK office, 23 11th Ave. S., Cranbrook. $9*/2 million in building permits NATAL (HNS) - Total construction authorized in the Regional District of East Kootenay for 1972 hit a high of $9,-605,496. Largest building contract in the year was for $5,315,646, the final one issued to Fording Coal in the Elk Valley. Others were to Panacom Building Systems Ltd. on the northeast outskirts of Cranbrook for $320,000 and a final permit to Wolverine Valley Lumber in Elko for $224,000. The number of permits for the year was 376. Percentage break down of the permits was: residential 34 per cent, industrial 63 per cent and commercial three per cent.
