He said he has asked Clay Whitehead, director of the White House office of telecommunication policy, to prepare legislation. "I encourage the Congress to review the issues presented by cable television and I especially encourage a widespread national debate on this subject which could play such a major role in all our lives during the Nixon said The cable TV report was divided into two phases long-range and transitional. The long-range recommendations would not take effect until cable television had achieved 50 per cent countrywide penetration, estimated some 10 to 20 years in the future. The transitional recommendations could be implemented with the passage of the legislation that Whitehead's office will draw up. Brian Lamb, assistant to Whitehead, said the legislation can't be written until cable television industry spokesmen, officials at various government levels and other interested parties are conferred with. The cabinet report proposes that more authority be shifted to local franchising agencies, with the Federal Communications Commission Argentina wants more Canadian art SASKATOON (CP) Argentina wants to show more Canadian art to the Argentinian public, says the Charges D'affaires of the South American Country.
