Cecil Smith, assistant direc- tor of public relations, said it is an experiment to see whether the public wants an extension of the usual 20- mmute newscast. (AP) The Arizona game and fish commission has been criticiz- ed for allowing television actress Amanda Blake to keep wildlife at her suburban Scott- sdale home while it con- fiscates a pet quail raised by a Phoenix boy. "Miss Super Star sits out there and she can do anything she Mel Lovell, self- described animal lover, told the commission here. "She can have a mountain lion, otters, kit fox, cheetahs any wild animal she wants. Yet let a kid try to keep a quail and the department Good assortment DECORATIONS While they last. QUALITY DENTURE CLINIC EDDV DIETRICH Certified Dental Mechanic 303 5th Street South Metcalf Building PHONE 328-7684 seizes it" The commission recently seized a pet quail raised by Jack King, 13, of Phoenix. The quail incident evoked a letter from Senator Barry Goldwater who dared the commission to confiscate the hundreds of quail who feed at his home. King raised the quail, nam- ed Hercules, from an egg which was found on the desert after its -parents had been killed. The commission denied his application for a permit because the egg was obtained in the wild, and not from a state-approved source. Robert Jantzen, director of the game department, ad- mitted that Miss Blake had never received state permits to possess a kitfox or to breed cheetahs He said an in- vestigator will check on her raccoons and mountain loin.
