at 8 p m opening day Other players to score over 500 goals in NHL play Gordie Howe who had 786 goals in 1 687 games for Detroit Red Wings Maurice Richard, who finished with 544 goals in 978 games with Montreal Canadiens Frank Mahovhch, a 533 goal man who started with Toronto Maple Leafs, went to Detroit and finished his NHL career in Montreal before moving to the WHA s Toronto Toros and Jean Beliveau of the Canadiens who had 507 goals in 1 125 games Esposito moved into the lead in the NHL scoring race as he scored nine goals and six assists in the Bruins four games last week Esposito now has> 34 goals and 35 assists for 69 points and leads team-mate Bobby Orr by three points Orr has 23 goals and 43 assists Gilbert Perreault of Buffalo Sabres is next with 21 goals and 30 assists for 51 points followed by Guy Lafleur of Montreal and Bobby Clarke of Philadelphia Flyers Ldfleur has 22 and 26 assists for 48 puints while Clarke has scored 10 goals and added 38 assists The Angeles Kings goal- tending duo of Rogatien Vachon and Gary Edwards have cut their league-leading average to 1 84 from last week's 1 93 Bernie Parent of Philadelphia Flyers leads the league with six shutouts national hockev before 4426 fans The Petes, in third place in the Ontario Hockey Associa- tion Major Junior A League, never trailed as they opened up a 4-2 first-period lead with Fryia scoring both his goals Doug Jarvis, Tony Cassolato Mark Perras and Red Laurence added goals for the Petes Alexander Baldin, Boris Chuchm, Sergei Abramov and Alexander Ivanov scored for the Soviets, outshot 33-32 record of six career shutouts The previous mark of five was set by Warren Fisher in 1967- 68 LEADING SCORERS League statistics released Monday night show Bridgman with 37 goals and 52 assists for 89 points to lead the loop in all three categories Trottier has 24 goals and 50 assists for 74 points Lethbndge rookie Brian Sutter remained third with 65 points followed by Peter Morns of Victoria with 63 and Rick Blight of Brandon Wheat Kings with 60 Mark Earp of Kamloops Chiefs is the top goalie with a goals against average of 3 32 Jerry Farwell of Medicine Hat Tigers is second at 3 39, followed
