Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - December 24, 1971, Lethbridge, Alberta A religious need craves satisfaction Christmas means many things to many people. For some it is so many days off work. For others it is re- turning home to their family or having their family come home. For children it is a very spe- cial and exciting time of par- ties and concerts, presents arid Christmas stockings. Then there are services of worship at Christmas. Churches which have been less than half- filled at Sunday services throughout the year are all of Christmas is Love The age-old Christmas story Is in effect a divine pageant played to the music of carols and based on the theme of supernal love. The theme is changeless because love is eternal the only eternal quality possessed by mortal man. So Christmas Is the one day in the year when love in all Its greatness and beauty and power, and in all its sim- plicity rules the world. CLIFF and BESS ot UNION MEAT MARKET BIAIRMORE, ALTA. Wish A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND PEACEFUL NEW YEAR To oil Friends and Patrons a sudden bursting al the scams Wliy is it? I think that it lias something to do with the mystery of Christmas which strikes a re sponsive chard in Ihc human need for a spiritual dimension to life. If you ask people about it they often say that it is a won derful feeling to be al a ser vice of worship on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. It is as if the mystery of Christmas has captivated their most inner being. What tills saj's to me is that man has a religious need that craves to be satisfied. St. Aug- ustine put it another way, "Thou hss't made us for thy- self Lord, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in lhee.': May the mystery of Christ- mas be with you this Christ- mas and stay with you through- out the New Year. The greatest gift, wrapped up in the love of God, is Jesus. us consider why Jesus came, Jesus came to be our coun- selor, to give us guidance. Hudson Taylor, the founder of the China Inland Mission, en- joyed a life of constant com- munication with God. Often his daily life would speak to others about the present reality of God. Jesus came lo be our healer, renewing us physically day by day. A famous doctor in Saska- toon was known to ask all his assistants to bow their heads just as he would begin an oper- ation. This doctor would then pray aloud to God as the Great Physician asking Him to guide in the healing of the illness. Jesus came to be our redeem- er, freeing us from slavery to sin. David Wilkerson, who is spending his life helping drug addicls find Christ, has seen people who had absolutely no nope completely redeemed and restored through faith in Christ. One former addict, Nicky Cruz, now a nationally famous figure, is serving the Lord in the ghet- tos of inner city asphalt jun- gles. Jesus came to be our Imman- uel, to reveal God. Even one of His own followers would not be- lieve that Jesus had risen. Yet when Christ appeared, Thomas realized the truth and cried out, "My Lord and my Jesus came to be our saviour. sales houses have been work- ing to full capacity.
