Lights are twinkling By VERN DECOUX Crnwsnest Pass Bureau BLATRMORE Tile festive season is in full swicg in the] Crmvsnest Pass Valley and gaily colored Christmas lights are twinkling from almost ev- eryone home in the district. Business have gone all out to decorate their store win- dows to mark this jubilant sea- son and superb lighting and na- tivity scenes are in evidence on front lawns all through the val- ley. Strings of the gaily colored lights have been strung across streets all through the area and private residences are fea- turing more than normal color- ed lighting effects. The besutiful colors contrast- ed against the white snow in the district must instill a happy feeling in everyone Churches in the 'Pass are holding the annual special Christmas services and to fully enjoy (he season it is ex- pected that everyone will make an effort to attend at least one service to reminisce tlffi true meaning of Christmas. Meanwhile mother has been extremely busy preparing spe- cial cookies, tarts, mince pies, shortbread and other sweet- meats besides preparing and stuffing the Christmas turkey or goose and making those de- licious fruit cakes and plum puddings for the Christmas din- ner Father too has had a busy lime, not only during the past week but all during the vear to provide the necessities of life for his family. As he sits back and relaxes on Christmas eve he may not emotionally show it but deep down he is grateful! his family is home and that i he has had the opportunity of being a good provider. Most i of all he is thankful that he is in Canada, a country free from war and other atrocities man brings on himself. To Our Mony Friends and Patron! Throughout the past year we have had the opportunity to meet many new friends through- out this part of the Province. As you gather with your fam- ilies and friends may you ths joy and happiness w-ithin family life that surrounds this season that proclaims Christ's birth. I realize that for some this season will come and go just as another holiday. For others it will be a means for coming together as a family. Still for olhers it will be a time of lone- liness and of heartbreak, espe- cially within strife torn coun-, tries. Christians the world over will be reminded of Uie coming of Jesus Christ into the lives of a few shepherds, who proclaim- ed that God was making him- self known to the world. God's good news for us is that He revealed Himself in Jesus Christ. Good news for Christians the world over is that the Star of Bethlehem shines to direct us to the life of Jesus and God's action in the world. Each year at this time we reach into a distant past to dramatize, in a festive way, the event of Christ's coming into the lives of many who look to Him as Lord and Saviour. This celebration attempts to capture the spirit of Christ's arrival to give hope to a dis- unified world. Such a world we are experiencing today. The; reality of this disunity is seen in the wars that go on around us, which is a direct disunity between men, and between Man and God. j Christian's reason that Christ j can bring unity to a divided world. He will be able to ful- fil] the present and the future. This, in part, is known as Hope. Christmas to me marks the beginning of this venture into a faith that establishes hope for those who follow Christ. This Hope establishes that a basic unity can be found if only men will strive and work at it. Hope requires that Christians make their faith known through their actions hi giving further Hope to the suppressed, the helpless of unkind wars, the underprivileged, our fellow hu- mans who are unable to rise above meagre incomes. Per- haps it will be involved com- mitted Christians who will play a major role, as many have done in the past, hi lead- ing people from under the for- ces that block efforts toward a more viable future. With every good wish for the Christmas Season and the New Year.
