Included are sleighs, rock- ing horses and skates from Old Quebec, dolls from the Near East and silhouette drawings from the Orient. But the most fascinating things the adults found in the exhibit are the toys which were familiar to them when they were acting like buzz-saws on a string, thread spools hooked up with an elastic band and a pencil to act like a tractor, and a spool and a nail used to knit a wollen rope. The show was assembled by Phil Tilney, the museum's folk culture specialist, who says that when it comes to toys there is very little new under the sun. The Greek philosopher Aris- totle probably played hop- scotch and Julius Caesar probably had a pull-toy horse when they were young. King Tut's subjects played marbles and had homemade tops. Many of the toys in the mu- seum's collection now are valuable collectors' items, and so they are displayed behind shatter-proof plastic. But off to one side of the room, low tables have been built where kids will be en- couraged to make their own dolls out of clothes pins, hats and airplanes out of paper. paramount NOW SHOWING at and p.m. ADULT, NOT SUITABLE FOR I I I I __ I SEGAL and GOULD turn HP in oni of the bittir comediis of the yeirl Tavern owner plans old folks Christmas party TORONTO (CP) Pub owner James Lioutas' Christmas present to human- ity will be to close the doors of GOOD HEWS' MISSION POSSIBLE IN CHRIST EVERY THURSDAY P.M. Alberta film censors pass movie Emmanuelle TORONTO (CP) Harvey Harnick, general' manager of Columbia Pictures of Canada, said the film Emmanuelle will not, be released in Ontario because the firm refuses to make the cuts required by the Ontario Censor Board. "I don't want the picture to be cut because I don't see any good reason why it has to be swiped said Mr. Harnick. He said the French made movie, based on a best sell- ing novel, has already been approved for showing intact in Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta. Don Sims, appointed chief censor three months ago, said Mr. Harnick was "trying to manipulate the board and the press to create a controversy to get big box office." ...being the story of two bet-on-anything guys who happily discover something called a "winningstreakS'___j paramount cinema TONIGHT thru TUES. at and p.m. ADULT.
