C. Nielsen ratings honors. The ratings, made public Thursday, showed a poor start for CBS' Tony Orlando and "Dawn" variety show, which began as a summer series and returned last Wednesday as a mid season replacement show. The program ranked 45th of all evening shows rated during the Dec. 2-8 period. The 20 most popular evening programs rated last week were: Chico and the Man and Sanford and Son; All in the Another Osmond to marry SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Reuter) Another member of the popular singing group the Osmonds will be married here Friday the third to be wed within 15 months. Wayne Osmond, 23, will marry Kathlyn White, 21, of Bountiful, Utah, a college stu- dent he met when she was singing in a Mormon church choir two years ago. Of the six singing Osmonds, Merrill, 20, married in September last year and Aian, 25, married last July. The Osmonds are a Mormon family and all have chosen Mormon brides. Because of a rule of the Mormon church, which does not permit young unmarried men who have not been fully initiated into the church to witness wedding ceremonies, the other brothers, Jay, 19; Donny, 17; and Jimmy, 11, will not be present at Friday's ceremony Family, Rhoda, Maude and a special, The Night Before Christmas, all CBS; Sunday Mystery Movie and Police Women, both NBC; M-A-S-H, Rockford Files, Streets of San Francisco, Frosty the Snow- man, The Homecoming, Bob Newhart, Mary Tyler Moore, Good Times, Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, Hawaii Five-0, and Red Badge of Courage. The lowest rated show was a CBS news special on water pollution. Mute sentenced to six years VEGREVILLE (CP) Michael John Tokar, describ- ed by his lawyer as "a burned- up, pathetic old was given a six-year penitentiary term for robbing a mail truck and kidnapping its driver. It was Tokar's second con- viction on charges stemming from the September, 1973, at- tack on the mail truck. The first conviction last June by an Alberta Supreme Court jury was set aside by the court's appellate division because the man had not been arraigned But the second time around the result was the same, although Mr. Justice J C. Cavanaugh chopped a year off the seven-year term to which Tokar, a 53-year-old mute, was sentenced in June. Tokar, who said he lost his voice after he was beaten and choked at the RCMP detach- ment in Andrew, Alta., spent more than 3Vz hours in the witness stand, writing down answers to questions for the court. Killings similar to series on TV LOS ANGELES (AP) Police said today they are studying a possible connection between a recent segment of the television series Police Story and three Skid Road deaths in which the throat of each victim had been slashed The body of the third derelict to have his throat cut in less than two weeks was found Wednesday in a vacant building. Earlier, two other tran-. sients died when their throats were cut from ear to ear. A fourth derelict is in a coma from critical head in- juries suffered in an attack four days after a Police Story segment Nov. 26 in which a psychotic killer bludgeoned to death a number of Los Anglees Skid Road derelicts. Police investigators said they will attend a special showing of the murder drama at NBC's studios to determine how closely the real life killer may be following the script Stan Kallis, executive producer of Police Story, said the murderer in the show was depicted as a derelict himself who was symbolically "killing himself" as punishment for his own failure. He said the show was based on an actual case history. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla (AP) For comedian Jackie Gleason and Marilyn Taylor Horwich, it's "Awayyyyy we go." "It's the revival of an old ro- Gleason, 57, said Fri- day while telling of his plans to wed the 49-year-old widow in December "We were in love many, many years ago." Gleason said he was in- troduced to Mrs. Horwich in 1948 by her sister, June Taylor, who later was choreographer on Gleason's television show Mrs Horwich was widowed three years ago Her husband, George Horwich, was a Chicago businessman Gleason divorced his first wife in 1968 and was remarried 10 days later. That marriage officially ended earlier this week.
