Members and Invited Guests Only. LONG BEACH, Calif., (Reuter) The ocean liner' Queen Mary, once the pride of Britain's transatlantic fleet, has found a new job in retire- ment as a film star. Now berthed at the Long Beach waterfront and refitted as a hotel, convention centre and tourist attraction, the liner is being used by movie studios, television commer- cials as a backdrop or main character in their films. The ship has been turned up- side down (The Poseidon terrorized by a werewolf (Night Stalker) and had comedienne Lucille Ball sing and dance on the foredeck The Queen Mary may even get a television series. One company currently is filming a two hour movie for televi- sion called Adventures of the Queen which may be expand- ed later into a full scale series of shipboard adventure stories. Phone 327-2272 Entertainment briefs LOS ANGELES (AP) John Drew Barrymore, scion of the famous acting family, has been fined 1250 and placed on three years' probation after pleading guilty to a charge of possessing mari- juana. Barrymore, 42, was sentenced yesterday. The charge arose from actor writer's arrest Dec. 28 at a Hollywood residence. It was his second fine for marijuana possession. BIG HIT MOSCOW (AP) The rock ballet Trinity was the hit of the night as New York's City Centre Ballet was applauded through several curtain calls in the first of seven Moscow performances here. Most leading members of the Soviet Union's Bolshoi ballet company showed up for the opening. The New York group came here from Leningrad, where it received a 27-minute ovation, and Riga, where the final ova- tion was even longer. FACE DEFICIT LONDON (AP) The BBC, the state financed but independent radio and televi- sion network, announced cuts of more than million in its services Wednesday and warned of a large deficit next year. The BBC said it may be million in the red by next April. The cuts will involve some merging of its four radio networks, fewer afternoon television, programs and an earlier television closedown than the current hour of mid- night. The economy measures are expected to save million.
