Lethbridge Herald (Newspaper) - December 12, 1918, Lethbridge, Alberta E IN ILLICII BOOZE VANCOUVER, Dec. 12.-Walter C. Findlay, until yesterday coiumissioner and administrator of prohibition legislation In British Columbia, today was awaiting his arraignment in the provincial police court on nhaj-se of having illegally imported liquor into the province. Plndlay was arrested at Blaine, on the inteniational boundary, and brought back to Vancouver late last night. Whiskey Ring "The arrest of Findlay," says the Vancouver Province today, "is ospect-to bo the forerunner of the expos-ure of some enormous dealings in liquor. A person closely in touch vnth the investigation which the government has already made, stated tliis morning that further arrests will probably follow. It is possible that six or eight persons, and perhaps more, were In what is being called a 'whiskey ring' in Vancouver and Victoria and that all illegal transactions will run into thousands of dollars. It is said that the irregularities extend over many months and that instead of one carload, upon which the present charge is based, there is knowledge which relates to eight or ten car loads." The Province states that there is no suggestion of a shortage in the' money returns at the government' liquw-stores, but that "it is stated that there will be a shortage of the liquor which the government is supposed to have liad on hand." The same , article quotes a report "in one quarter" that "Jirobably 50 per cent, of the liquor Said to have been irregularly imported was sent.to Washington state, being smuggled across the international lionndary line." Findlay bias retained counsel and today refused to make anj' statement. l: LOOK AT TO Horry, Mother! Remove Poigons From Little Stomach, Liver, Bowels.
