HERALD 35 Unemployment highest among French youth PARIS (CP) Between and young peo- ple under 25, living in France, now are looking for jobs They form half of the unem- ployed in the country, increas- ing by every year Although France's un- employment rate has not yet reached Canadian levels, it has increased substantially because of the energy crisis and the effects it has had on the automotive and electronics industries Young people under 25 are those who are finding it hardest to find or to keep jobs Those who are inexperienced and have no family to support are usually the first to lose their jobs and to have difficul- ty in finding a job In August, for example, more than 40 per cent of requests for new jobs, a total of came from people under 25 The arrival on the labor market of the post-war generation explains partially the lack of jobs available m France But specialists have observed that more and more voung people are finding dif- ficulty in entering the labor force The reasons are numerous lack of training, particularly for existing positions to be filled the distrusting attitude of employers towards young people without experience, their own lack of interest in j certain jobs The young French are not so ready to take on jobs that are tedious or not stimulating This explains, partially, why France has to "import tens of thousands of foreign workers to work in the construction industrj and in public utility services PRINTED PATTERN Nominated BONNYVILLE Alta (CP) The New Democratic Party Tuesday night nominated Franklin Foster 29 of Grande Centre co ordmator DISCOVERY: RAIN FALLS ON RE AR Wl N DOWSJOO. Volvo was the first wagon with the foresight to provide its rear window a wiper and washer as standard equipment. But our vision extends beyond that. We designed the Volvo wagon to be high instead of long. So you can haul a lot more cargo without hauling around a lot more car. Our cargo area holds 67 cubic feet of groceries. Enough to fill four laige icfi igeiatoi s Yet this big car parks in the same space as a Volvo sedan. (For extra tight spaces.Voho does you another good turn. Power-assisted steering is standard.) Volvo s rear area not only holds a lot, it comes with a lot. It has its own heating and ventilation vents, its own three-point seat belts, electric rear window defogger, carpeting, tinted glass and childproof door locks. And when you load it up, the back door swings up to give shelter from the elements. When it comes to intelligent design, many people think the Voho wagon is miles ahead. Which is not surprising, when you considei all the thinking behind it. The wagQn for SHORT STOP AUTO LTD., 538 6th Street South, Lethbridge Phone 328-6586 ;
