Forest firm declared bankrupt WINNIPEG (CP) - Mr. Justice Israel Nitikman today granted a petition filed by three creditor firms and ordered that Churchill Forest Industries (Manitoba) Ltd., original owners of a multi-million-dollar project at The Pas, be declared bankrupt. The Court of Queen's Bench judge, in a 34-page written decision, named a chartered accountant, Sydney John Down, as trustee for the three petitioners. CFI and three associated companies were placed in receivership in January. The petition was brought by Dominion Catering Co. Ltd., claiming $241,547, Metropolitan Investigation and Security (Canada) Ltd., seeking $26,218 and Pile Foundations Ltd. asking for $10,532, all claims of debt against CFI. John Lamont, counsel for Dominion Catering and Pile Foundation, said the bankruptcy order gives the firms "a degree of control over the situation" in regard to unsecured creditors against the project. The integrated forestry project was built in Northern Manitoba by CFI and three other firms after the Manitoba Development Corp., an industrial development agency, loaned more than $90 million. The CFI order does not affect another petition by two firms seeking to have M. P. Industrial Mills Ltd., one of the companies involved in the scheme at The Pas, placed in bankruptcy. $ i^lrtks, Ubeal/iJ, ^Junerali, & ^ L^arJj 'iJLanhs, Jn llfjemoriami | DEATHS JESPERSEN-Passed away at Taber, Sunday, December 5, 1971, Bernice, at the age of 47 years.
