Yon state that the action of the Le'thbridge Law society in asking the council a police magistrate be appointed was Mr S. J. Shepherd, interviewed in reference to the above letter, -replied that it was largely an untrue state- ment and entirely at variance with the facts: He states that he did not at any time, nor is he aware that the at- torney-general or any of his officials did, ever intimate to the city council or to any other person that there would be any change in regard to the payment of the police magistrate's salary by the government in return for paying the salary, to collect all fees and fines.
