Of oourse, the great public who pay the saleries know nothing of the squabble and neither do I,' for Dad pleads ignorance when I ask him the whyfor of some of these things. And I guess it would not do any good for the public to know about the scrap between the secretary treasurer and the account' ant. The funny part of it is how the finance committee hold a meeting and agree to give the accountant what he wants, and then the aeore-tnry puts the kibosh on the whole business, and the committee backs down so hard as to puncture a hole in the seat of their trousers. As to why tliey did this is, of course, none of the business of the great general publi' l.j pay the salaries. Then thc.o is anothrT tunny thing in how the aldermen, at least the most of them, tell people privately how that they think the affairs in the city office are' not run right, and yet when they, come to the council where there is a newspaper reporter they stick up for the management of the office. It is not known why they do this but, of course, thia too ia none of the business of the great public who pay the salaries. What Have You to Offer? He was born in Dufferin comity, Ont., on a farm but drifted across the border and went into mercantile business and never dreamed of getting back to the land again. However, through the instru-iiMMitality of the O. W. Kerr Co. he was brought Ui the Letlibridge di.-^-triet and after being .shown over the di.^trict ar.J. told some facts about crops, he invested in two sections of liind near Wilson Siding, so;ath of the city. He brought his brother up from Ontario and placed him in cliurp-e of the property, and today as fine farm buildings as are to be found in the district are to be seen on the Crombie place.
