My daughter has seen him reading our mail. He also comes by at mealtimes. My husband can't seem to speak to him about it. Shall I speak to his mother, even though she also drops in at awkward times? She comes over when I am writing stories, which I do on a part-time basis. I have thought of putting a note on the door, "Visitors not welcome except by but that seems the coward's way out. Too Much. DEAR TOO MUCH: Tackle the puppy-dog teen-ager yourself. Tell him you like him but that it is not good manners to just walk in on people at any old time Suggest a particular time, perhaps while you are doing dishes just after dinner, when you'd be glad to see him. He must feel he has friendship and understanding in your home. And too much time on his hands! As for the mother, meet her at the door with the news that you are writing and that you keep working hours. This is a new idea to many housewives who are lonely. If you want to save her feelings, invite her for a specific evening. Then you will be able to explain that writing is work too, and that people have to be alone to concentrate on it properly. stupendous beauty and magnificence of the Grand Canyon from a helicopter, mentioned in your letter to me. How I admire you for your spirit and youthful energy in taking advantage of the opportunity today to experience such travels! If Wilma and I made one major mistake in our lifetime it surely was that we did not take a greater advantage of the opportunities we had to journey more while we could. Though, in all fairness, I must admit the fault was more mine I always said we would have the time and opportunity to do all these things later and here I am pretty well confined to sitting in my own special chair to read or watch the passing show! But there is nothing so futile as indulging in vain regrets. It is up to us to take whatever opportunities there are still left to us. Compensations. DEAR COMPENSATIONS: I'm glad we went too at a time when I thought I could ill spare the time. But it was thoroughly inspiring to view that mile- deep canyon, with its multi-colored multi-shaped rock walls. And I got caught up on my work somehow, later. I am printing your letter to catch the hearts and imaginations of any who are letting time slip without getting near their goals of fun and life- expanding enjoyment. DEAR DORIS: My husband is making a fool of himself. He is very fond of a woman who lives near here and often comes home very late at night. Tells me if I do not like it I can leave. If we did leave, would the Welfare help me buy a house? I cannot very well work until my kids grow up. My husband also tells me that we cannot be friends unless I go along with him, this woman and her husband as a foursome. When we do go he hangs around her all night and dances with her while I sit and watch. More Than I Can Take. DEAR MORE: You don't have to put up with it. Can you prove in court that your husband has committed adultery with this woman? Or can you prove that he has been cruel to you? The judge might then order him to support you; he would certainly be responsible for support of his children until they are 16. To find out exactly what help you would receive, visit the local or regional office of your department of social services. I am sending you the address.
