Calcutta! and reports today that it just boi'cd him. "It was sheer, stark bore- dom, ami of a sick writes Dr. Mervyn Stockwood, a liberal ecclesiastic whose charge is a teeming working- class area bordering the south bunk of the Thames in Lon- don. Dr. Stockwood accepted an invitation from the Guardian newspaper to see Die contro- versial production after the Archbishop of Canterbury and Cardinal H s e n a n, Britain's leading Roman Catholic, had declined invitations from a London municipal councillor who is conducting a campaign to have it closed. The director of public pros- ecutions has refused to bring charges of corrupting public morals against the revue's sponsors, holding that they would not succeed in court. Writing in The Guardian, Dr. Stockwood says: "If the cast had worn clothes throughout. I doubt whether the show would have survived a week. "The frequent excursions into nudity reminded me of 'bath night' drill at boarding school. "The script and illustrations were reminiscent of the graf- fiti I once found on the walls of a mental hospital with which I was associated. "Would I suppress the revue if I could? No although Oh! Calcultn! lias hit the headlines, it does little more, and in a peculiarly dreary way, to provide in public what can be obtained in semi-pri- vate at dozens of strip-tease joints and sleazy clubs. SOME HAVE MOKE Although most starfish have five rays, some have six or more. Next year commemo- rates the lOOlh anniversary o[ B.C. joining Confederation, Pre- vious centennials were cele- brated in the province in 1958, I960 and 1807.
