Mich (AP) Twelve-year-old Edith Perchman was deliver- ing the Detroit Free Press on her regular route when she approached the Rudolph Acosta residence in Highland Park It was about Sam Sunday and still dark. Her father, Marion, who always drove her. was waiting in his car with Edith's 11-year-old sister and one ot her friends Edith was about to flip the newspaper onto Acosta's front porch when a shotgun blast from a window in the house sprayed her in the face She tell in the yard, but pull- ed herself up and was stum- bling toward her lather's car when a man appeared on the porch with a pistol and began firing Police say Edith was hit at least 15 times in the two shoot- ings She died after being ad- mitted to hospital The girl's father told police he also hrc-el at as he pull- ed his daughter into the car Irom a grassy strip between the sidewalk and the curb.
