Lethbridge Herald (Newspaper) - August 7, 1970, Lethbridge, Alberta THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD, FRIDAY AUGUST 7, 1970 Brainchild Of Des O'Connor Four Ridiculous ^Brothers When introducing the four-man team, "Kraft Music Hal" summer host Des O'Connor really "put an" his audience. It was so rare, he said, to have Sour brothers in the same act. So he was more than pleased to welcome them to the show. Enter the MacGregor Brothers! Whereupon all preconceived notions about four kindred Scotsmen died instantly. Hie Mite this comic foursome wears are just about as Scot- tish as they wM ever be! It tarns out that the four "brothers" are individually of Chinese, Australian, Nigerian and English origin: Andy Ho, Johnny Vyvyan, Willie Payne and Johnny Johnson. It turns out, too, that their act was a brainchild of Des O'Connor. It was back in 1967 that Des hit upon the idea of getting together to bill as brothers four guys who weren't related at all -four guys, to make it even Wednesday, August 12 11:00 Q Days of Our Lives Q) Newlywed Game <7) Meet Mullett 0 Peyton Place 11:25 (7) Double Exposure 11:30 0 Doctors Q) Dating Game 0 Romper Room 11:55 (7) News 12:00 (7} Luncheon Date-Part 1 CB Today 0 Another World -Bay City fD Secret Storm 12:30 0 Cartoon Party 0 Buckshot 0 Edge of Night Q] One Life 1:00 g) Luncheon Date-Part 2 Q3) Movie: Stranger in My Arms (TJ Linkletter 0 Gomer Pyle 1:30 0 Mike Douglas (7) Movie: Blind Spot SJJ Love is a Many Splendored Thing 2:00 CD General Hospital 2.30 CD Dark Shadows C0 Magistrate's Court 3:00 c Take 30 C9 People in Conflict 0 Andy Griffith CO That Girl 3:30 O Edge of Night CO Doctor's Diary 0 Cronkite News CD Galloping Gourmet 4:00 0 Galloping Gourmet CB Smart Alec (TT) TV-5 News @) The Lucy Show 4:30 0 Banana Splits c Uncle Bobby CD Where's Huddles 0 Huntley-Brinkley 5:00 0 News @3) Popeye 0 Baseball: Montreal at Atlanta CD Gomer Pyle 5:25 CB News 5:30 0 The Virginian CD Hogan's Heroes 6:00 CD My Three Sons CB CFL: Montreal at Winnipeg 6:30 CD Boom 222 7:00 0 Music Hall CD Everly Brothers 7:30 (7) Teleprobe 7 8:00 0 Medical Centre O Hollywood and the Stars CD Smothers Brothers 8:30 (7) Andy Griffith (3) Physical Fitness for Busy People 9:00 0 News CB Movie: Sound of Anger 0 Gunsmcke CD TV5 News 9:30 0 Tonight Show CD Merv Griffin 10:00 (7) Comedy Crackers 10:30 0 Adventure Calls UiOO^Cz) News CB News 11:20 (7) Teleprobe 7 C0 News 11:40 O I Spy Q3) Movie: Barber of Stanford Hill 12:40 (7) Meet Mullett 1.00 CB Today 1:30 (J3) University of the Air M0T0SP0RT 350 The all-new specialist machine for the specialist rider. O'Connor thinks the foursome he finally selected fffled the bill perfectly. Out of vaudeville amd other sources of talent cajme this unusual group to give birth to the MacGregor Brothers. Having appeared with O'Connor (a top-rated entertainer in Britain) on stage and television since 1967, the comic MacGreg-ars are certainly no strangers to English audiences. On May 20, however, when "The Des O'CcmOTr Stow" premiered in NBC-TV's Wednesday night "Kraft Music Hafi" series, it was the American viewers' turn to meet the "brothers." American viewers experienced for the first time the deadpan comedy of the diminutive (4' 11%") Johnny Vyvyan whose face, fixed seemingly in a permanent sneer at O'Connor, readily explains why he thinks: "On TV cine picture is worth a thousand words." American viewers saw his striking contrast to namesake Johnny Johnson, 52 inches around the mididJe and 274 pounds. They witnessed the unimaginable spectacle of Nigerian and Chinese in traditional Scottish ait-tire. And TV viewers this side of the Atlantic learned, for better or worse, that this unlikely combination, this clan with a difference, would be around for a while yet. The "brothers" MacGregor, like host O'Connor, would grace the TV screen all summer long. Challenging Sea Traces History Of Multi-Hulls Sea-going vessels with more than one hull are almost as old as man himself and CTV traces their history down through the ages on The Multi-Hulls, to be telecast in color on Sunday August 9, 5:00 - 5:30 p.m. on Channel 13 when CTV's Untamed World presents The Challenging Sea. The Multi-Hulls begins by tracing the outrigger canoe, the fast, buoyant little craft first used by man when he took to the challenging sea and still used in the Pacific Islands and along the Indian Ocean. As shown during some exciting footage shot at sea, twentieth century sailors are utilizing modern designs and the latest techniques of aerodynamics to make the multi-hulls more beautiful and much faster. Although propelled only by the elements of nature, many of them are capable of outracing the wind. Bobby Gentry Special To Be Re-Telecast The Sound And The Scene, an exciting hour of country-flavored music and contemporary comedy starring Bobbie Gentry, will be re-telecast in color on the CTV Television Network, on Friday August 14, 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Channel 13. Joining Bobbie are two co-hosts - Don Meredith, star quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys and singer Charley Pride. Don, a pro football veteran, made his debut as a professional entertainer in The Sound And The Scene.
