Along tlie back from tlic head whioli is nisLrkeO with yollow, is a double row of bhie spots, fdllowed by ft double row of red spots. Tlierc are five pairs of bhie spots and .six of red spots. The male moth is brownish yellow, varying to greenish brOwn'. The ieniuie is nea.rly white with small black markings. They expand to one and a half to two inches. The female does not fly; The infected shrubbery which came from Boston was examined by Mr. NiU's, an inspector of the New York State Agricultural Department, when it arrived early in the spring, but he found no trace of the insect then. It. is dotted with tents, which are used by more than 100 State employees who are trying to destroy tlie brown tail moths discovered by Chas. T. Hotuling, tree warden, of Gi-rensvich. Mr. Cook has come- to the aid of 'the State and is defraying a part of the expense, it js said; which amounts to nearly |1,000 a day. The moths aVe being destroyed chiefly by burning, and. a score of waggons with pumps are being used to spray the ^refen grass and shrubbery, with gasoline in order that the larvae of the insects may be incinerated.
