Lethbridge Herald (Newspaper) - August 6, 1974, Lethbridge, Alberta 14 - THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD - Tuesday, August 6, 1974 Doris Clark Happy wife explains'slap-dash'concern JOHN DEERE NEW EQUIPMENT ~After Season Special!" No. 100 Series JOHN DEERE BEET THINNERS Coming Soon! NEW 4300 JOHN DEERE BEET HARVESTER 1966 MF 410 S.P. Combine 1968 JD 5020 Tractor 1966 Case 830 Tractor Allied Loader McKAY BROS. FARM IMPLEMENTS LTD. 3214 5th Avenue N., Lethbridge Phone 327-5512 DEAR DORIS: Slap - dash housekeeping could be a symptom of lack of encouragement from a husband and mother. I wonder if the mother (who writes to you) has considered offering to care for the two children for a day and have the dishes done with supper ready. If the wife was able to get dressed up and out, she would appreciate the break and be able to indulge in a hobby or interest. Grandma could encourage the five - year - old to use a washcloth herself and give matching pretty dresses for the next birthday or special day. I wonder if the husband encourages his wife verbally; and helps his daughters pick up after themselves; and picks up after himself; helps his wife to clear away supper dishes or cares for the girls so that his wife can relax sooner. I wonder if he offers to take her out, and the family out, occasionally; and encourages having company in. Does he encourage her to have a creative hobby or share a hobby with her, realizing that a day of "Mommy, Mommy" all day long can be very discouraging (especially if he thinks she did nothing all day)? A family grows together as each person tries to grow as an individual, while helping the others to grow as individuals. The main thing is that an attitude of love pervades all words and actions in relations with others. - A Happy Wife. DEAR HAPPY: Rare insight is expressed in your thoughtful suggestions. I also suspect that these positive ideas turn into a reality in your own home. DEAR DORIS: I am 13, and am going out with a girl I really love. She is the first girl I have ever gone with, and I am worried about what I should do. I'd like to neck with her, but I jusf don't know where to start. I don't know how to start anything with her, and they say the guy has to make the moves. - Frustrated, Restless and Scared. DEAR F., R. AND S.: Why start anything at all? Thirteen is a great age to be enjoying girls' company in a relaxed, friendly way. No need to embark on a great passion. There'll be plenty of time for that later. Believe me, the girl will like it better if you are just good friends with her and don't get too involved romantically. There are plenty of ways to show her how much you like her without necking! * * * DEAR DORIS: I live a lonesome life with my wife, as she never has anything to do with me as far as love is concerned. She never talks to me much at all. Yet she is very kind and friendly with other men. Could it be that she is having affairs with them? - All Fed Up. DEAR FED UP: I just don't know - how could I, with so little to go on? Perhaps that wife of yours has bottled up some dissatisfaction in marriage that you never hear about. Try to think how it was when you were, first in love. Ask yourself whether you remained a gentle, thoughtful lover after you were married. If she is nice to other men, this does not necessarily imply anything unfaithful. It may merely mean she knows her manners'; or that with others she finds topics she can discuss pleasantly, Yours is a case for a trained counsellor; it may yet be possible for you to begin to understand each other better. * DEAR DORIS: For the price of a postage stamp, I would like to make someone happy. Re Bed Bugs: We had bed bugs so bad that we had to keep the light on all night.. That of course is not a cure, but it helped when we didn't know how to get rid of them. All the lady has to do is buy a can of a- special kind of powder (name given). Put a sheet or blanket on the bed spring. Sprinkle some in dresser drawers, in the clothes closet and around baseboards. I'll guarantee that in five days she will not find another bed bug. Stay sleeping in your same beds. I was so happy to know this that I could not resist writing. There is no danger of fumes or anything to keep anyone awake, and no harm. My subscription to this paper (and your column) is paid up to 2001! - Sixty-Eight. DEAR SIXTY-EIGHT: Sounds mighty simple if it works. I'm glad it worked for you and have passed it on to "Bed and Bugs". If anyone else wants the name of this miracle powder, just write in and I can give it to you in a private reply. DEAR DORIS: I have two kittens and want good homes for them. . One lady would give one a good home but she lives on the eighth floor of an apartment with a balcony, where the cat woqld be let out. Would a kitten six weeks old have enough sense to know that it is a long drop, and not fall? M.S. DEAR M.S. Six weeks is~pretty young for a little toddler, when that toddler is a kitten. Being naturally wary, it is most unlikely he would walk to the edge of that balcony and step off into space. Kittens and cats usually have a good look before they leap. Just the same, if your lady friend wants the kitten, I would advise that she put a temporary foot high fence of chicken wire or even wallboard around that balcony until her kitten becomes a cat.
