The Wagners bring children along Harold Lloyd estate ideal location to shoot movie By DICK KLEINER HOLLYWOOD (NBA) Usually, when an actor is between takes, he or she goes back to a modestly tawdry dressing room and sleeps or does crossword puzzles or studies his or her lines. It isn't often that there's a picnic. But it isn't often that a com- pany shoots in a place as plea- sant as the Harold Lloyd es- tate here. That's where I caught up to Natalie Wood, who is costarring in "Fat for 20th Century- Fox, with Michael Caine. It is her first theatrical movie since "Bob Carol Ted Alice." which was four years ago. The rest of the cast was shooting inside, with director Peter Hyams. Natalie was tree for a few hours. But there was Natalie, complete with baby, nurse, maid, secretary, husband and mother-in-law, picnicking cheerfully in the children's garden outside. TOURIST SPOT The tourists the Lloyd es- tate is open to the public these days seldom see this part. It is in back, a green oasis behind a fence gate that says, "Come into my garden and play." Natalie was diapering four- month-old Courtney Brook Wagner, murmuring maternal sentiments, as she bent to her task. "There we she said. :What good The maid, Maria, a large and happy woman, and the secretary, Peggy, a pretty. slim blonde in a blue T-shirt, stood by, ready for anything. But Natalie seemed practiced and proficient and required no assistance. She wore a long, flowery house coat. Every hair was in place. Her nails were long and polished a bright red. It was impossible to tell because of the bulky coat she wore but her friends say her figure is back to its former svelteness. They say she was quite large while she was carrying Courtney. As soon as the baby was born she began a program designed to restore herself to bikini proportions. She is reputed to be a lady of iron will who did what had' to be done. Now, they tell me, she is back to her 5 foot 2. 100-pound shape. She said that Courtney was at the perfect age to bring her to the set like this. Usually, she brings her older daughter, Natasha 3'2. too, but this day Natasha was elsewhere. She and her husband, Robert Wagner, are currently in the process oi finding a house. They have been living in Palm Springs but with both of them working that is an in- convenient location. "It's difficult to commute with kids." Natalie says. "As R. J. says. 'It's a bit like travelling with the big top.' We want to work and it's nice that there is work in town now. He's doing 'The Tower- ing Inferno' while I'm doing this." They'd like to work together but it's hard enough finding IMPORTANT MESSAGE from ANGLO SIEREO PHOTO Effective August 5th, Anglo Stereo Photo wiRremain closed on Mondays. STEREO PHOTO 419-5thSt. S. Phone 328-6661 one good part, let alone two in the same property. Courtney began fussing. Maria ran up to the house, to warm up a bottle. Meanwhile, Natalie began feeding her. She used a lovely blue china dish and a silver spoon. "This is the first avocado of her she Said, and the baby seemed to enjoy it. "When Natasha was this age she ate everything even things like eggplant and caviar. I haven't tried caviar on Courtney yet." She continued talking about her career "I want to work occasionally, if something comes along" while she fed her baby. And she kept up a constant stream of maternal chatter "You're a good girl, yes. such a good girl" as the avocado disappeared from the blue bowl. Then Peggy, the secretary, looked over the field toward the main house and said. "Here comes R. J. and .the rest." R. J. that's Robert Wagner had a day off, so he was joining Natalie for lunch. "That's Willie Mae in Natalie said. "Then an un- known lady in blue oh, I know who that is that's Shakira. Michael Caine's wife. And my mother-in-law. And R. J. with the picnic basket." They arrived and Willie Mae. the maid, unpacked the picnic basket and soon they were all eating, R. J. had a blanket, in a leather case, which was spread on the grass. There was wine, too. RECALLS MEMORIES "This place brings back memories." said R. J. "I knew Gloria Lloyd, Harold's granddaughter, when I was a boy. I'd come over here and play tennis. And the Lloyds helped me get started in pic- tures."
