WM-J Coal miners die in cage England Twelve coal miners were killed today in a runaway lift cage which plunged to the bottom of an shaft at Markham Colliery near here. The state-owned National Coal Board said 28 men were in the cage when it fell. The condition of the survivors was not known. Markham is the biggest coal pit in Derbyshire in the English Midlands. The accident happened as the miners were being lowered to the coal face to begin the early- morning shift. Backlash develops over air piracy NEW YORK Spec- tacular public displays of mind- less cruelty by assorted hijack- kidnappers and other ter- rorists ere creating a backlash that is making the perpetrators unpopular and unwanted even by usually pugnacious regimes. The long ordeal of the passen- ger and crew aboard a Japa- nese jumbo jet was that sort of display. While the if of the air pirates was not made it was noteworthy that no capital in the turbulent Arab East wanted them. Iraq denied them permission to land. Other Arab closed their airports to them. Libya let them but ar- rested them after they evac- uated the doomed plane. Communist Cuba long ago found the epidemic of air pi- racies an embarrassing nui- sance. Thus it was possible to bring about an agreement on how to deal with that particular problem. In the case of the pirated Japanese militant Pal- estine Arab organizations were quick to disown hijackers. Guerrilla leaders quoted in Lebanon called the episode from the morality of the revolu- The four hijackers who blew up the Boeing 747 in Ben- ghazi Monday were identified there as three Palestinians and a Japanese. A customs official for the Port of Butte said at the weekend land- ing rights and customs clear- anas for international flights from Canada are available at the Butte airport. Rob United States customs said his of- fice can provide landing rights if requests are msde two hours in advance. Depending on the workload at the port and the manpower Hanson said officials could be on hand at the airport for landings and customs inspection. Trouble arose earlier this month when cowboys flying from tiie Calgary Stampede to the Butte Vigilante Rodeo held up at the border and miss- ed performances in Butte. Hanson said persons wanting to fly to Butte should call his office from Canada before leav- ing. This will give his office time to arrange for an inspec- Hanson said. Calgary is about two hours flying time from Butte. Hanson pointed out that the Bert Mooney Airport of Butte has never been officially desig- nated as a landing rights air- port. But since the airport was 'included in the Port Butte landing rights may be granted at the discretion of the port customs director.
