Nothing has hit the field ot children's programming in the United States wilh the impact of Sesame Street, the highly origi- nal show for pre-schoolers thai has been the biggest hit of the U.S. educational television net work. It combines animation and live action to teach the al ibabet and other basics. 'Because of its success, prod ucers now have a much better chance of selling quality shows ;o the says Norman Prescott, head of the Filmation production company. 'Before Sesame Street, there wasn't a chance of interesting the networks in anything beside pure entertainment. 1 know, be- cause I tried." Filmalion is a new giant in the animation field. Founded in 1965 by Prescotl, Lou Scheimer and Hal Sutherland, the com- pany grew so fast that it was wooed for a merger by several acquisilive corporations. Filrca- tion chose to align with Tele-' prompter because of the prom- ise it held in future cable televi- sion. PROGRAMS CHANGED The quick rise ot Filmation was due to the fast expansion and rapid change ot television programming for Saturday Next season Filrnation will lave two other shows on ihe networks. The Jerry Lewis Show, an animated version of he comic, and Sabrina and the Groovie Coolies, starring a covey of monsters. While the shows are non-vio- lent, they're not exactly educa- tional. 'We've tried to interest the networks in shows that might inform said Schei- mer. "So far we haven't had any luck." The Filmation people hope that the Sesame Street success will help convince the network tosses that children's shows can be informative as well as fun. 0 "A COCKEYED K -Joxfrfi MorftixUm, Nttittt TUESDAY NIGHT Patl Tividar Rob [ngram Terry LumsiJCT WEDNESDAY Jim Elllar) Show CHEC News on ihe Hour Wthr., Sports TUESDAY NIGHT Farm NCV.S Dinner showcase Back lo Ihe Bible Voice ol ChFra World Tomorrow lo Music B.
