also danced an exciting Prince Flonmund Miss Kam was Princess Aurora, one of four Canadian ballerinas who will be seen in the role at the Met Barnes said she was a "very special dancer" and "one of the most talented ballerinas in the western world LOOKS FOR PROGRESS However, "she is not too much improved from last he said, but it would be unfair to expect measurable progress from month to month Other New York critics said Miss Kam's performance was superb Karen was asked during a dressing-room interview about Barnes' review "I don't know, I just accept she said "You know you just can t fall down because somebody doesn't say that you're fantastic I think I have she added 'One man can't be judge of everything, even if he is very knowledgeable Barnes said Nureyev's performance as Flonmund at first seemed a little tense But in the last act he pulled out all stops, and dazzled his audience with his dancing "It needed this special flash, for the performance otherwise never quite took off The blue birds of a rather earthbound Andrew Oxennam and a somewhat tenative Veronica Tennant were not truly up to intrnational standard They were pleasant enough, but not good enough After a stiff training class with the ballet company at the Met rehearsal hail Miss Tennant plopped onto a dressing-room chair "It has been a wonderful she said "Just being back in the same cities we were in last season was wonderful Everywhere we went, the audiences were just great Frances Herndge of the New York Post said Miss Kain was "like a young Margot Fonteyn so marvellously light she seems hardly to odds have shortened since the government gave notice of its anti-profiteering legislation Sources have indicated there is more to come "Earlier this week I said the odds were 99-1 in favor of an says a New Democratic Party MP "Now I'd say its about 80-20 NDP Leader David Lewis has been saying that his 31- member caucus no longer can support the minority Liberal government and that his party is almost certain to move a motion of non-confidence after the May 6 budget He laid down four stiff excess profits tax price control legislation a six-per-cent interest ceiling on mortgages and a two-price system for domestically- produced commodities While official government sources say the NDP demands had no bearing on the govern- ment's decision, Prime Minister Trudeau announced Wednesday that legislation would be introduced to permit action against excess profits And Liberal party sources say the question of a ceiling on mortgage interest rates was actively discussed in caucus earlier in the day Other sources say there are several bills, still in the planning stage which would please the NDP "It's possible that other measures will be announced before the says one But this source, highly-placed in government, denies any suggestion thai the legislation is being prompted by NDP demands "Anyone who knows the legislative process knows that bills can't be whipped up that quickly We've been working on all of these things for months However, a finance depart- ment official who normally would be familiar with related legislation was unaware of the anti-profiteering legislation before the prime minister an- nounced it in the Commons It was a reporter who told him the legislation was almost certain to involve a beefed-up restrictive trades commission Mr Lewis wasn't enthusiastic about the announced legislation "If all we get is this bill and one or two other cosmetics, it will not be acceptable He said the government had fallen into a pattern of reacting to the opposition whenever a Commons defeat seems inevitable "All I can say now is that Mr Trudeau and his government are a year and a half too late But not all Liberals have given up hope Likewise, some NDP MPs are not so sure now that an election is inevitable BOB HOPE MAMIE EISENHOWER Hope, Mamie honored PITTSBURGH (AP) Bob Hope and Mamie Eisenhower were honored yesterday by the Pittsburgh Committee of
