A partial transcript of the proceedings, published in The Globe and Mail, showed that Lome Taylor, a justice of the peace in York County, made repeater! references to the witnesses' religion and con- victed Saleh Izreig of driving through a red light with the words: "Moslems be damned." Mr. Izreig had pleaded not guilty to the charge and called as witnesses. Abdullah Gemil and Faruk Gemal, who were with Mm at the time. All three are Moslems. After Mr. Gemil was sworn and finished his testimony, the transcript shows that Mr. Tay- lor then questioned him about oath taking. Finally, it shows Mr. Taylor saying: "Thank you. Step down There'll he a conviction on the charge. You're not even goot to your own Moslem jurisdic- tion. Never mind. I've alreadj made my findings. There'll be a conviction as charged. Mos- lems bo damned." Mr. Taylor was not available for comment today. Mr. Izreig who was fined declined comment. His lawyer, G. A Moledina, said in an Interview there are "several post con fiction procedures" available under the Criminal Code. He declined to elaborate. The transcript shows Mr. Tay lor also had some words for Mr. Izreig. At the end, it quotes Mr. Taylor as saying: "If this is the kind of Cana dian imports we're getting, let's forget it. You are in this coun try of Canada. You're not ii India, or wherever you came from. Remember. You respec this country."
