Mayor Hardie's contentions regarding the lalluie to provide for depreciation of public utilities was not reached. He said he ^Vould take it up at the ne.-it ineeting. Secretary Rcbinsen brought down a detached list of the deficits now standing against the city cove-ring the past five years, and of tlie monies taken from the public utilities accounts and placed in the general revenue account since the city has owned and operated its own utilities. The total amount was $185,250, which the mayor said should be provided for. This w^uld 'wipe the deficits off the books and pay l5ack what the current account owes the various utilities. The estimates as passed last night were; Markets and publicity .......f 10,000 Works and property and parks and boulevards ............ B4,985 License, police and health .... 58,35(V The works and property estimate was cut 52600, but the license, police and health arranged for $1100 moi-e than their original estimate. The fire department wants $34,000. Last year it spent .$32,270. The esti-mate was pot passed for lack of detailed information. The finance committee asked for $90,750. This will be discussed at a later meeting. ' NOTES ON THE ESTIMATES Macleod Road has always been one of the danger drives in the vicini'ty of the city. At the present time the city has a damage suit pending asking for $3000 as the result of an automobile accident lyhich resulted iu the death of the late Mr. Murray. -The council this year will fence the road to pra-vent a Tepetilion of such tragedies, appropriating $1000 last night for that purpose. If it costs $250 to lay cinder paths on Adams Park and $100 to remove the cinders f.'-ora where the wind blows them, is it worth wliilo to make cinder walks? This was (lie poser asked by Aid. Hamilton in discussing an appropriation of $250 for cinder walks in Adams Park.
