McNicoU, vice-prusi-dent of the Canadian Pacific with regard to the accident at Chaplenu yentorda}-, in which fourteen persons are believed to have been burned to death in the fire which followed the derailment of a train: "About twenty-two miles west of Chapleau, Ontario, yesterday, the westbound transcontinental train, which left Montreal on Tuesday morn ing WAS parttj- derailed, the accident being caused by a broken rail. Five cars, ran down an embankment and caught flro, apparently from a cooking range. Nine adults and six children are missing." Following are. the names given:: William Day, London, England. Winnifred and Susan.Horton, Charing Ueath, Kent. C. H. Golding. his brother and his brother's wife and two children of Plaistow, Essex, England. Mrs. August Bjorklund end two children of Worcheater, Mass. Mrs. R. B. Cbapion and baby and Mrs. K. Davidson and baby. The wreck occurred at Brunell, 22 miles weat of Chapleau. INJURED. Wm.� Williamson, Brandon, Man., both hands off. Jos. Gibson. Salisbury, Eng., back badly strained. M. Kounis, Fort William, scalp cut and both hands burned. Charles Coleman, Portsmouth, Eng head, face, hands and back burned. Alphonse Ferlado, St. Marie Beauc, Que., fracture third metacupe bone. Archibald Stettlon, Chittenham, Eng., wrist burned and bruised. Ernest Knight, Cambridge, Eng., leg bruised. Earnest Knight, Cambridge, Eng., wound over eye and ear cut. Harry ^Williams. The record of the nine months which constitute the last fiscal year, in respoet to the flnoncial bctturuient of the country, is In every respect the most gratifying over issued by the finance department. Since confederation there have been only five years in which the jt?ar's statement has been able to show a decrease in the not public debt. Throe of these yoors have been under the present government, and the total reduction of the four years was fl3,-968,365, or less than the reduction achieved in the past nine months. The total net debt at the end oflast month was f252,576,8-11, a roduc  tion during the month of $2,50S,113 The total revenue in regard to con-soiidutcd fund account for the nine months was $65,814,457, and the expchditure 1141,858,739. The increase in revenue in March, as compared with the same month of last year, was $572,736. The expendi -turc on capital account for the year was 910,385,600, as compared with 99,146,337 for the corresponding period of 1905-6.
