Michaels, 25, and Pomerantz, 27, have produced and appeared in tfcree major Sunday evening specials tins season - That's Canada for You, Today Makes Me Nervous and That's Showbiz. A fourth show is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27. AH the shows so far have featured many new writing and performing talents, some on television for the first time, backed up by established performers. In addition, Michaels has conducted a winter - long comedy writing workshop. The original pilot for the se-which is not yet firmly titled, was shot at CFTO-TV Toronto by National General Television Productions Inc. in association with CBS Enterprises. The series will be a co-production with National General Television Productions Inc. Starring Canadians Diane N^land. Steve .Weston, Franz Russell and BonrJe Brooks, the series is expected to commence production in Toronto during May. NBC Film Crews Take Color Look At Expo 70 Once again, NBC Nero' critic - at - large Edwin Newman confronts a world's fair. "Expo '70: World's Fair in Japan," will be colorcast Friday, April 24 on the NBC Television Network. The program, Mr. Newman stresses, does not intend to take itself too seriously: "World's fairs, while seeking to be instructive and promotional, are also places where most people go to have a good time, and we intend to do just that. For people who cannot get to Osaka, we hope to present a capsule version of the Fair. For those who are planning to go, we shall offer a lighthearted list of do's and don'ts, together with an informal rating sheet on the best exhibits, the best architecture, the musts and the avoidables." Maggie Smith, who recently won an Academy Award, is among five headliners who have been added to the roster of celebrities due to appear as presenters on "Prudential's On Stage Presents the Tony Awards," the 90-miraite special covering the Tony Awards ceremonies which will be colorcast on the NBC Television Network Sunday, April 19. Joining Miss Smith to help honor excellence on the Broad-way stage are: Mia Farrow, Elliot Gould, Clive Barnes (dance and drama critic of the New York Times), and Miss Smith's husband, Robert Stephens, actor and associate director of the National Theatre of Great Britain. Miss Smith won an Oscar for her starring role in "The Prime of Miss Jean Bro- die.'-' Stephens also appeared in the movie. Other presenters are James Stewart, Patricia Neal and Michael Caine. Marathon Musical _ Session Long Holiday HOLLY WOOD - Peter Graves, star of Mission: Impossible, left recently for a month-long visit to Hong Kong, Tokyo and Melbourne. In the latter city he will present the Logie Awards, Australia's version of U.S. television's Emmys. It will be a return to familiar haunts for Graves, whose Fury was filmed in Australia. Following on the success of the CBC television music special Rock 1, a second show built around the music of today, Rock 2, will be videotaped before an audience of 450 in a AVz hour marathon session at CBC-TV's Studio 7, Thursday, April 23 at 8 p.m. The exciting lineup of name performers in the 60-minute color show, to be telecast next season, is headed by Al Nichols, young Montreal singer who is the sensational lead performer in the New York production of Hair; the Sweet Inspiration who are Aretha Franklin's vocal group; The Collectors, the Vancouver rock group responsible for the music at Canada's Expo 70 pavilion; and the special guests, Delaney and Bonnie and Friends. Producer David Acomba, wbo was responsible for the much acclaimed CBC-TV specials. Mariposa; A Folk Festival and Rock 1, win use eight cameras, relaying three separate feeds to videotape machines; and, for the first time on television in Canada, an eight track recording system.
