Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - April 13, 1973, Lethbridge, Alberta PAGE 3 Weekly show got her 'going again9 Series cancelled but Julie not worried By DICK KLEINER HOLLYWOOD The Julie Andrews Hour wasn't renewed and this is one demerit for the American audience. Julia's show has been a beauty all season. Granted, the time slot ABC stuck it in was downright stupid and makes one wonder about the mental capabilities of network execu- tives. Still, the public should have found the show and sup- parted it better than it did. Julie says she isn't worried. Whatever happens, she figures elie's come out ahead. In ths first place, she isn't ploying the game. She says that when the season be- gan she decided she would ig- nore the ratings completely, She says she knows that they haven't been too good but she's just gone along, doing what she ihotieht was best. "That's all one can she says. But, over and above the rat- Ings consideration, for Julie this has been a good year. "Doing the show got mi going she says. "I hadn't done anything at all ex- cept for the Carol Burnett spe- cial, for three years. "For a long time, I had thought that I had to work, since I began so young and spent my youth doing nothing but work. Then, during those three years I found that I en- joyed not working." She might have gone along, happily not working, except that ABC offered her a small fortune to do the series. "The offer was so Julie Andrew's Hour chosen as best TV musical variety HOLLYWOOD (ABC) The Julie Andrews Hour has been selected as the put- standing TV musical variety show for 1973 by the Dance Educators of America. So she went back to work. And she says that she was 'orced to do things she had for- gotten she could do sing and dance. She says doing the got her into physical shape again, made her start singing again, "got me going again." She's enjoyed doing it. It's >een fun, she says, and she hinks she's learned a lot. On the plus side is the fun, the experience, the learning and the money. But there's a big minus side, too. "I've been she says, "because I've had to be away :rom my family so much. This year has been about 80 per cent work, 20 per cent family that's too much on the work side. "The children have been very about it, about having ;heir mother come home and go right to bed but I've been feeling very guilty about it." "I've learned a few she says, "about what to do and what not to do. There's really no need for three big pro- duction numbers on every show. Two would be fine ami one would be sufficient." She is in what she calls "a lovely position." Right now, she's off to make a movie "The Tamarind Seed which she and her husband, Blake Edwards, are going to shoot in London, Paris and Barbados. She says it's a "Hitchcockian suspense story with a love theme." and her leading man will be Omar Sharif, playing a Russian. It will be her first movie in awhile but not the only one around. Her greatest hit, "The Sound of is in re-re- lease and a whole new genera- tion is discovering its sugary joys. 'fThe Sound of Music" is a tough act to follow and maybe that was one of the problems with her TV show. It's hard on a gal when she has to be mea- sured against her performance in one of the biggest hits ever. (Newspaper Enterprise Assn.)
