A bouquet of flowers and a beautiful birthday cake decor- ated by her neighbor Mrs. Hazel Lyckman, were the focal points of a tasty lunch. 79th birthday COUTTS (HNS) Dave Gaehring, still enjoying good health, celebrated his 79th birth- day with a family dinner at his borne at Milk River. Born April 11, 1894, in Har- vey, N. Dak., Mr. Geahring moved to this country in 1912. He worked in the mine at Shaughnessy until 1948. Then be started fanning in the Hop- ing district. Mr. and Mrs. Gaehring are now retired and live at Milk River. They have seven children and 10 grand- children. Crowsnest Pass News Peace tea COEEMAN (CNP Bureau) A total of was realized at a tea for "development and peace." It was held by Helen Picker- ing, Aim Gibos and Helen Dan- coisne at the home of Mrs. Pickering. CWL bake sale April 14 COLEMAN (CNP Bureau) The Coleman Catholic Wo- men's League has set Satur- day, April 14, as date for the annual spring tea and bake sale. The event will be held in the Catholic Hall from 2 to 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome to at- tend. A social evening was held. Hostesses Mrs. Agnes Mont- albetti, Helen Daneoisne and Alice Montalbetti served tea and cookies. CUPE brief studied by council NATAL (HNS) District of Sparwood council has received a copy of a brief presented to the City of Trail by the Koote- nay members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, the union representing civic em- ployees and school board em- ployees throughout the area. CUPE requested support from Trail for an appeal to the provincial government for a change in the tax base for municipal revenues. CUPE says tie change from an agricultural based econ- omy, such as existed when land taxes were established, to the industrial base of the pres- ent economy. The CUPE brief also suggest- ed to the City of Trail munici- palities could achieve some economies of operation through amalgamation of adjacent mu- nicipalities. The brief was turn- ed over to committee for study. Pincher Creek Museum receives artifacts PINCHER CREEK (Spe- cial) The Pincher Creek Museum is now receiving ar- tifacts. Mrs. Vivian Judd will be at the Museum Building in the Kootenai Brown Histori- cal Park daily, except Mon- days, from a.m. to 12 aoon and to p.m. to receive artifacts and to make out collection reports. The first criterion of suit- ability in an artifact for the Pincher Creek collection is its local historical connection. The second criterion is age, virtually all artifacts in the collection will be from 1935 and earlier. Articles from the pioneer era before 1900 will be the most esteemed but the cura- torial committee of the Pin- cher Creek and District His- torical Society also wants to collect articles for display on life and work in the Pincher COMING WATCH Creek district in the periods 1901 to 1914, the First World War and the 1920s and 1930s. Artifacts of a small nature may be brought to the muse- um any afternoon, Tuesday to Saturday. Persons having larger arti- cles to donate should come to the museum to fill out a col- lection report describing the artifact and giving its history. Quilting set for April 12 ETZIKOM (HNS) The Women's Missionary Society of the Evengelical Free Church met at the home of Mrs. Ar- nold (Clara) Stromsmoe re- cently with roll call involving a collection of money for the purchase of fresh fruit for guests of the Pleasant View Lodge at Bow Bland. The nest month's collection will be for the Cypress Bible Camp. The quilting date was set for April 12 at the home of Mrs. Bob (Marilyn) Weeks at Orion.
